Dr. Matthews was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to Virginia in 1986. She attended the University of Virginia both as an undergraduate student, where she received a BA in History, and as a Medical Student. Dr. Nichols graduated as the Valedictorian of her medical school class and served as president of the medical honor society, AOA.  She completed her residency at MCV and joined the faculty in 2001 as a member of the Urogynecology division.
