Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Community Health
Dr. Saba Masho is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Community Health at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Dr. Masho is an exceptional researcher and has made significant contributions in maternal and child health. She has been a principal investigator and co-investigator in the area of perinatal health, provision of comprehensive care to underserved pregnant women, youth violence, sexual violence prevention, and assessment of women’s health status. Dr. Masho has evaluated several programs and projects and is currently the evaluation director for the CDC funded REACH US grant that focuses on reducing poor birth outcomes in economically disadvantaged communities and the VCU Center of Excellence for Women’s Health.. She is also the epidemiologist for the federally funded Richmond Healthy Start Project that focuses on the provision of comprehensive perinatal care to women. She has authored a number of peer-reviewed journal articles and a book chapter. She has given numerous scientific presentations and has moderated several scientific and community workshops.
Dr. Masho taught and currently teaches research methods courses to medical, master of public health and PhD students at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Masho has been the recipient of the VCU’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2002, 2005 and 2006. She also received the VCU’s Outstanding Research Achievement Award in 2005.
