Monica Leisey is a graduate of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work. Her dissertation, A Constructivist Inquiry into the Meaning of the Term Domestic Violence, emerged from her work providing services to both women and children who have experienced domestic violence. Monica’s social justice focus informs the work that she does in the domestic violence intervention community. As National Institute of Health, National Library of Medicine Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Award Fellow, Monica investigated the advantages of combining social work skills and consumer health librarianship skills for responding to the issues of health disparities and the growing need for health literacy. Monica's research agenda focuses on the intersection of domestic violence and the health care system and the importance of social work's involvement in our community's response. Currently Monica is the Research Coordinator for the VCU Institute for Women's Health.
