After completing pre-medical studies at Columbia University, Dr. Klein received her medical degree in 1984 from Case Western Reserve University.  After an internship at University Hospitals in Cleveland, she came to VCU where she completed her training in Internal Medicine in 1988.  That same year, she joined the faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care, and quickly rose to numerous leadership positions within the Department of Internal Medicine and at the University.

Dr. Klein was co-founder of the interdisciplinary women’s health center at the Stony Point ambulatory care facility, where she was named as Medical Director for Internal Medicine in 1995.  An outstanding clinician, Dr. Klein has consistently been recognized in Richmond Magazine’s listing of the “Best Doctors in Richmond”, and since 1996 she has been included in The Best Doctors in America.  Also in 1996, Dr. Klein was named as the department’s first Program Director for an innovative Internal Medicine residency in Women’s Health.  In 1999, she co-founded the VCU Institute for Women’s Health, which was recently awarded a designation as a National Center of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Active in numerous organizations, Dr. Klein is the founding Past President of the VCU Women in Medicine & Science Organization and founder of the annual Pathways to Leadership Conference for women physicians and scientists, now in its twelfth year.  She currently chairs the School of Medicine Committee on the Status of Women & Minorities.  In 1996, Dr. Klein was recognized for her dedication to Women’s Health and named VCU’s Woman of the Year.
